LOGO vs BRAND IDENTITY

Person: So what do you do for a living?
Me: I’m a Brand Identity Designer and Marketing Strategist.
Person: Oh so you draw logos!
Me: uhhhhh…
I mean, they’re not wrong, I do design logos which usually start off with pencil and paper, but at the same time…there is waaay more to it than that.
So what’s the difference between a brand identity and a logo?
In short, you can’t (or at least you shouldn’t) have one without the other. Relying on just a logo with no brand identity to back it up is like having a bicycle with no wheels. You could probably drag your wheel-less bike wherever you needed to go, but it’s going to be really difficult and a waste of your time and it will probably veer off in its own direction. But give your bicycle some wheels, you now have support, and the ability to go in the direction you want it to go with far more ease.
This is where many a start-up businesses in search of logo design can stumble, particularly with apps such as Canva on tap. What’s not to like? You can create a logo for your brand in no time at all without you having to shell out for a creative agency’s service. BUT…your brand will never get all those wonderful intangibles that come with a full brand identity design; the reputation, the perception of value, the ethos, the tone of voice, the corporate identity and the oh-so important relationship with your customers, to name a few. And don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Canva, it definitely has its uses, but not when it comes to creating a holistic brand identity and marketing strategy based on research, market knowledge, and an understanding of what’s best for your brand and your customers.
Mishka Creative can ensure your business is not just a pretty logo, rather a consistent and long term identity, conveying the value of your brand and one that differentiates you from your competitor.
So, what are you waiting for? If you’re looking for some help designing your brand identity, drop me a line so we can talk about your project further, preferably with an oat milk flat white or long island ice tea in hand…whichever’s closest.
